A Decade of Design.

August 9, 2012

It’s hard to believe that 10 years ago this month, I had just graduated from HPU and scored an internship with BSD.  I couldn’t have imagined 10 years ago that I would be where I am today. Who knew that the blonde recent college grad would work her butt off (and come to her senses about the blonde) to become a NCIDQ Certified Senior Designer.  The past 10 years have definitely been a story of starting at the bottom and working/learning my way up.

I still remember getting the chance to stylize my first showroom vignette like it was yesterday.  It was the 350 “Metro” maple finished youth collection by Vaughan.  I was so proud of that room.  South Park dolls, tie dye and all!  I also remember being scared to death the first time I was sent out to select wallcovering.  Sitting there flipping through book after book thinking “OMG, I have no idea what I’m doing!”  Boy, have times changed.  In the past 10 years as a designer at BSD, I have not only successfully taken and passed the NCIDQ but I also have had the honor of receiving several ASID design awards.  None of those would have been possible without the support my BSD team and our fabulous clients.

Throughout the years we have learned from each, learned from our mistakes, been each other’s biggest cheerleaders, been each other’s biggest critics, a shoulder to cry on, a friend to laugh with and have always, always, always had each other’s backs.  We challenge each other to be better designers, better friends and better citizens in our communities.

Christi & Christi have taught me not only how to use my creative mind to the best of my ability but they have also taught me how to be a better daughter, wife, friend and one day working mother.  It’s not often that a person can say that they truly respect, love and care for their bosses.  I’m also lucky enough to call mine my friends as well.

It’s not just Christi and Christi on my side but my dear friends and co-workers Kelley, Anne and now Julia that make work feel more like play!  Each member of our team throughout the years have become my friends and will always hold a special place in my heart even though they are no longer here.

Thank you to C & C for seeing something in that young HPU graduate.  I will be forever grateful, honored and humbled that you chose me.  I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years have in store for all of us!!

What better day to talk about Kate Spade’s new Spring Campaign then Valentine’s Day!  It’s full of black, white and HOT PINK paired with Florence Broadhurst’s famous Japanese Floral!!  Kate Spade is known all over the world for her classic, bold and colorful designs.  She is one of those designers that I LOVE pretty much everything that she designs but will probably never splurge on any of them.  A girl can dream, right??  Her latest collection has hit a soft spot in my heart with it’s bold mix of large floral patterns, black, white and hot pink!!

Here’s a few photos of the collection:

Window shopping in Beverly Hills is an experience all on it’s own.  In fact, its so great it makes not buying anything not so bad….

Before getting started – we stopped by The Beverly Hills Hotel so I could get a quick peek at the lobby design.  (Pssst – while we were there I saw Ryan Reynolds!)

Then – off to Rodeo Drive…

BCBG

Louis Vuitton

Chanel

Stuart Weitzman

I really can’t remember this one but loved the two story front window and models up in the air.

Or this one but aren’t the mannequins great?

Valentino

Chanel

Harry Winston

My preferred method of travel (and lust list auto) was on every street corner!

Last but not least!!

Truth be told…this place was not in Beverly Hills.  It was on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood but look!  This place seriously cracked me up:  The Dry Bar!  Its a styling salon specializing in blow outs!  The decor was too clever!  Check out the blowdryer chandelier.

So like I said…the window shopping IS so great that it makes not buying anything not so bad!

Happy shopping!

Mmmmmmm Mustard

December 7, 2010

I’m not sure what it is but I am obsessed with everything Mustard colored this fall.  From handbags to shoes to cardigans to bed linens to upholstery to accessories the color Mustard is warming up both personal and home fashion.  If only I had the budget to buy them ALL! 🙂  Mustard can be beautifully pair with a grays, browns, navy blues and black.  The possibilities are endless.  Here are a few of my Mustard colored favorites:

West Elm’s Gray Tailored Stripe Coverlet and Shams with Mustard on the reverse

Anthropologie’s Take Me Everywhere Wallet

Mod Cloth’s Saucy Saffron Coat

Global View’s Trapunto Magazine Holder-Mustard

Kravet’s Inviting Fabric

Thomas Paul’s Outdoor Seahorse Pillow

What are your favorite colors that have been popping up this fall season??

Meet our interns…..

December 1, 2010

The team here at Barbour Spangle Design believes whole heartedly in the importance of hands on education through internships.  We feel that we not only offer the interns invaluable experience and knowledge but we also learn so much from them in return.  Our interns are involved with our everyday duties as designers.  They are exposed to client or manufacturer rep meetings, filing, traveling to job sites, sitting in during construction meetings, etc.  We regularly have interns in the fall, spring and summer.  I started out my career at Barbour Spangle as an intern.  We would love for you to meet a few of our most recent interns……..

Our spring interns – Megan (Kearns) Streba from Randolph Community College and Jenna Dock from High Point University:

Our summer interns – Emily Perry and Paige Caruso both from Appalachian State University :

We are currently looking for an intern for the winter/spring semester.  If you are interested in interviewing for an internship position at Barbour Spangle Design, please contact Brianne Dewey at bd@barbourspangle.com.
